There are many barriers for employees to currently access mental health. There is much stigma around mental health, challenges around getting appointments when it suits employee availability and even accessing the right support can be difficult. Unfortunately, with current EAP and mental health support programs, the onus is on the individual to seek support. This can be very challenging when they are struggling mentally to muster the courage to jump through the ‘hoops’ to access support. Often employees must talk to a manager to get access to therapy, which often acts as a deterrent to seeking help, as many employees feel vulnerable and uncomfortable to speak to their manager about personal information. On top of this, the employees often only receive a limited number of sessions, and need to seek approval for additional sessions beyond their 3-5 sessions currently provided.
